Communications Intern

George Mason University (recent graduate)

Melanie Jalim is a Communications intern at CREST. She is a recent 2021 graduate from George Mason University with a degree in Communications with a concentration in Public Relations and a minor in Tourism and Event Management.

She has always had a passion for traveling and event planning, but it wasn’t until Melanie interned at Walt Disney World in Orlando, Florida where she gained a sense of how Florida’s tourism industry makes an impact that is beyond amusement parks and beaches. Once she transferred to George Mason University, after her time at Disney, she chose tourism and event management as her minor and she took classes that revolved around how to travel in a sustainable manner. She wanted to partake in the CREST internship due to her learning about how tourism can make impacts that can help the local communities without harming the land, economy, and people that reside in various parts of the world. Melanie is eager to learn how to become a responsible tourism advocate and wants to spread awareness to those who love to travel.

In her off time, Melanie loves to explore Virginia and Maryland vineyards and farms, bake, and collect vinyl records for her ever-growing collection.
