The Center for Responsible Travel (CREST) is hosting a distinctive seminar in Crete, in partnership with Crete's Culinary Sanctuaries - Discovering the culture, nature and cuisine of Crete in collaboration with local Responsible Travel practitioners.
Crete is the birthplace of the first civilization in Europe - The Minoans. There is much to discover and enjoy. There is also much to protect. Crete's mild climate and strategic location at the crossroads of Europe, Africa and Asia made it an ideal location for raiders, traders and invaders through the ages. Crete's diverse ecosystems, rugged mountain terrain, majestic coastal vistas, intriguing geology, biodiversity, music, literature and heroic resistance movements throughout time encompass the distinctive character of the island and its people. Doménikos Theotokópoulos (El Greco) and Nikos Kazantzakis, author of Zorba the Greek and Freedom or Death were born in Crete. Known as "The Garden of Greece," agriculture plays an integral role in everyday life, emphasizing our interrelationship between food, nature, culture and community.
Join resident specialists on an extraordinary journey exploring archaeological sites; organic farms and vineyards; nature reserves; fishing ports, and artisan food shops and traditional tavernas. Stay in beautifully restored lodging in historic villages. Organized with Nikki Rose, Founder and Director of Crete's Culinary Sanctuaries Network, an award-winning program for best practices in Responsible Travel.
The cost is $2,790 per person double occupancy or $3,170 per person single occupancy. Space is limited to 20 participants. Due to the boutique nature of this seminar and limited accommodations, it is recommended that you commit to the trip as early as possible. Registration is due by April 12, 2017. The deposit of $500 per traveler is due by April 17, 2017, and the remaining balance is due by May 17, 2017.
