CREST offers a strong internship program to provide real-life sustainable tourism educational opportunities to outstanding students from around the world. We believe education is the key to a sustainable future, and our staff always learns just as much from our interns as they do from us.

CREST asks that Program & Research interns be available for a minimum of 20 hours per week and Communications interns be available for 15 hours per week, for a minimum of three months (common start dates are mid-January, mid-May, and early-September).

As the internship is unpaid, preference will be given to students seeking academic credit. Graduate students are preferred, though consideration will be given to exceptional undergraduates.

CREST is based in Washington, DC, however, due to the impacts of COVID-19, we are accepting applications only from candidates who are able to fully participate in the internship remotely. To conduct remote work, interns must also have reliable access to the Internet and be available for check-ins via phone or video conferencing. Our staff is currently teleworking and our office will reopen when it is safe to do so.

CREST Program & Research Interns provide assistance on research and consulting projects, as well as provide general support when needed for CREST programming. This internship is a great opportunity for someone looking to expand their knowledge of responsible and sustainable travel in hospitality, events, and/or destination management. The ideal candidate is an enthusiastic, creative individual who’d like to gain experience working in the nonprofit sector. Intern responsibilities include assisting with research and analysis on sustainable travel, supporting program development around Tourism in a Climate Crisis, supporting the activities of the Future of Tourism Coalition, and much more.

Intern responsibilities may include (subject to change):

  • Assisting with research and analysis on sustainable travel on projects in the Americas
  • Conducting research and coordinating activities to support program development around climate change and social/economic inequity in tourism
  • Supporting the activities and development of the Future of Tourism Coalition

  • Assisting with some administrative tasks

The CREST Communications Intern will provide assistance on a wide variety of nonprofit communications projects. Interns will have the opportunity to learn about nonprofit marketing, media relations, policy advocacy, and content creation across all communications channels, including email, digital, and social media. The ideal candidate is an enthusiastic storyteller looking to gain experience in the nonprofit sector and contribute to an organization focused on sustainable development and management of tourism.

Intern responsibilities may include (subject to change):
