CREST’s New York City Events are a Tremendous Success!

On Tuesday, June 16, CREST held two events in New York City to showcase Travelers’ Philanthropy and our other signature projects in the area of responsible travel. At a Philanthropy New York Members Briefing in the morning, CREST’s Co-Directors joined others to discuss Travelers’ Philanthropy: A Growing Trend in Development Assistance. [Click here for details]

Later in the day, more than 50 invited guests attended an “Evening of Cocktails and Conversation” at the lovely Upper East Side home of Lisa Applebaum and George Haddad. The gathering was designed to introduce CREST to a New York audience which  included travel industry professionals, media, NGOs, and academics.  We showed excerpts from our Travelers’ Philanthropy video documentary and WYNC’s Brian Lehrer guided a conversation with Co-Directors Martha Honey and Bill Durham.

“Congratulations on a truly inspiring evening. The discussion was very interesting and stimulating. Thanks so much for including us,” commented Karen Hoffman, Senior Vice President, The Bradford Group.

The evening concluded with the drawing of door prizes for holidays stay at several of Costa Rica’s most socially and environmentally responsible eco-resorts. We thank Green Hotels of Costa Rica and Hotel Punta Islita for their generous donations of vacation packages.

We also wish to thank our Travelers’ Philanthropy partners who attended: Carolyn Fox from Country Walkers, Rumit Mehta from Safari Ventures, and Alexi Huntley from Nature Air. (Click here to link to our Travelers’ Philanthropy company and community partners.) We wish to thank Phyllis Feder from Clinton Vineyards, one of New York’s best known wineries, for donating the wine. And, of course, Lisa Applebaum and George Haddad for opening their home to us, Brian Lehrer for serving as official host, and Tamara Reynolds from The Sunday Night Dinner for providing the organic and locally sourced hors d’oeuvres.
